Happy Tales finds new location to house dogs and cats

Happy Tales Humane secured a new facility over the weekend at 1282 Lewisburg Pike in Franklin.

Happy Tales Humane secured a new facility over the weekend at 1282 Lewisburg Pike in Franklin.

After 14 years at its location in The Factory at Franklin, the nonprofit, no-kill adoption shelter was asked by the owners in early November to vacate by mid-January for undisclosed reasons.

eWe are in a lease at the moment, but the goal is to purchase and we have a lease-purchase agreement. It depends on whether we raise enough money,e Happy Tales executive director Debbi Cure said.

Happy Tales, founded in 1996, plans to hold a capital campaign, but Cure does not yet have an estimate of how much funding the organization would need.

The new building, which previously housed a management consulting corporation, is 4,900 square feet, offering Happy Tales nearly twice the space.

Happy Tales can now house its dogs, which were formerly kept with foster families, as well as cats.

The nonprofit will also be able to expand its surgeries at the new location.

eWe filed today for the premise permit. We canet get it inspected for codes until we have access to the building, and it could take up to six months to have everything installed. Weere hoping as soon as possible,e Cure said.

Happy Tales gains access to the new location Jan. 15 with plans to be moved in by the end of the month.

eWeere very excited about being able to house the dogs as well,e Cure commented. eWeere planning new and fun things as far as play stations and interactive things to get the animals ready for adoption.e

Until then, Happy Tales is at 230 Franklin Road, Suite 1303.

Originally asked to move temporarily into a vacant salon also housed in The Factory until moving out in January, Happy Tales was allowed to stay after further negotiations.
